India faced a challenging situation during their first innings, quickly losing three wickets for just 34 runs. The predicament deepened as they lost three more wickets, leaving them in dire straits at 144 runs.

However, the match took a turn thanks to a remarkable 199-run partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. The duo showcased exceptional resilience and skill, steering India out of trouble. Jadeja played a vital role with a solid contribution of 86 runs, including 10 fours and 2 sixes, while Ashwin led the charge with an impressive century, scoring 113 runs with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Their partnership not only stabilized the innings but also put India in a commanding position, allowing them to post a strong total of 376 runs in their first innings. Ashwin's aggressive approach, complemented by Jadeja's steady play, shifted the momentum in favor of India.

Post-match, Ravindra Jadeja shared insights about his partnership with Ashwin, expressing his admiration for his teammate's skills. He mentioned that Ashwin doesn’t need any advice and praised his performance.

“I got out today, but that’s part of the game. We need to set a good score in the second innings. I’m pleased with my bowling performance today and see this as a good opportunity to take my 300th wicket on this ground. Our aim now is to score around 120-150 runs from here,” Jadeja stated after the second day’s play of the Chepauk Test, which India eventually won by 208 runs.

Jadeja added, “If we can put up a good score, we’ll be in a strong position. The pitch is decent for batting, but there's still something for the fast bowlers. Some deliveries are seaming and swinging, making it challenging for the batters. If the fast bowlers put in the effort, they can exploit the conditions.”
